Statement
My work deals with the infiltration of technology into everyday life. I incorporate personal and found photography with other materials like thread, string, and wire to make connections between seemingly unconnected elements, creating narratives and connotations among figures and objects. By comparing and contrasting emotional with technological connections, I hope to question man’s relationships and interaction with technology.
Utilizing a needle or a drill, I pierce the photograph and then stitch together the points of interest. The photographs are presented either mounted to a thick backing, like wood, plexiglass, or placed inside of a frame without glass, leaving the thread or wire spilling out of the photographs frame into the surroundings. Some objects are more exaggerated, becoming part of a photo-based installation that reacts with its environment, where as others are more subtle. Just as technology permeates our lives, these installations
are meant to investigate and redefine the physical and psychological spaces in which we live.

Exhibition: "Vestiges - student thesis exhibition", April 20th - May 5th, 2007
at the Poissant Gallery, Houston, Texas
Vestiges, from the Latin word 'vestigium', recalls something that is faintly visible or otherwise discernible, evidence of a former presence or existence of something that is no longer present. To wit, all the artists in this group draw on vestiges of past experiences, nostalgia, and recycled imagery for their straight photography, mixed media, or digitally altered imagery.

Exhibition: "Recent Work by Ariane Roesch and Andrew Taylor", February 3rd - March 3rd, 2007
at the DeSantos Gallery, Houston, Texas
DeSantos Gallery's 2007 inaugural exhibition is a compilation of recent works by Houston-based artists Ariane Roesch and Andrew Taylor, both of who utilize found images for different ends.
Series: Essential Connections I
With the 'Essential Connections' Series, I used red, blue, and yellow thread, alluding to 'the basics', to expose the primary relationship between man and technology by juxtaposing work and leisure time. The threads are tought between the eyes, mouth, and ears of the person and their point of focus in work or play to spill out of the machanism driving the action, for example a volleyball or a typewriter.
Installation: "Occurrence" at the ARTCRAWL, Nov 18th, 2006, Houston, TX
Emerging from a traditional photographic background, Susan Brubaker, Vera Misteau Mitchell, and Ariane Roesch will be installing a portable viewing space which will house three intallations exploring the boundaries of the photographic image while deconstructing and bringing attention to social, political, and individual issues.
...
Ariane Roesch's installaiton 'Sexy Machines: the perfect marketing tool', deals with advertising. She defines a 'sexy machine' as a woman placed into an ad for a technological product to make the already sleek product look even more appealing. These three 'Sexy Machines' are placed here as cutouts that are also 'plugged in', like their advertising partner, into the electricity feed via the pink string.
